If an animal needs help
- 1Keep a safe distance
An animal in pain may bite. Do not pick it up, corner it or give it water by hand.
- 2Note exactly where
A landmark and a road, or let the report use your location. Stay if it is safe; note which way it went if it moves.
- 3Take a photo if you safely can
From where you stand. A photo helps a rescuer recognise the animal and bring the right kit.
- 4Report it, or call a helpline
StrayPaw shows the report to organisations working nearby and tells you when one takes it. For an emergency, call a rescue line as well.
After you report, StrayPaw shows a receipt marked “Received”. It is not accepted until an organisation takes it, and the page says so when it happens.

If you were bitten or scratched
- 1Wash the wound immediately with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes.
- 2Apply an antiseptic (povidone-iodine or alcohol-based) after washing.
- 3Visit a hospital or health centre for anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) as soon as possible.
- 4Complete the full course of ARV injections on schedule (typically days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28).
- 5For deep or bleeding bites, ask about rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) in addition to ARV.
- 6Do not apply turmeric, chilli, or any home remedy to the wound.
Not medical advice: a doctor decides the schedule.
